What does a visit entail?
There are generally two types of visits:
- Intial Visits - This is the first visit and takes approximately 60 minutes. The first part involves meeting the practitioner and going through a detailed intake process. This process includes a discussion about the reason(s) for the visit, a history review, and physical exam. After the intake, a treatment plan wil be discussed and rendered, which make take between 15-40 minutes. Various treatment modalities may be employed but acupuncture/electro-acupuncture is typically applied.
- Follow-Up Visits - Generally, these visits are between 30-45 minutes and are intended to continue the treatment plan established during the Initial Visit. This may be a repetition of the first treatment, but adjustments are usually made depending on the response to the initial treatment.
It is best to come dressed in loose, comfortable clothing. Bring anything not entered into the online intake form (new medications, imaging such as X-rays and MRIs, referral letters, etc.).

Depending on the application, needle thickness and length will vary. Some acupuncture needles are nearly hair thin. Please see the section regarding needles on the Acupuncture page.
Typically, 10 needles or less are used for a treatment. This depends on the necessary treatment parameters, and will occasionally be more than 10.
There are typically three levels that acupuncture can affect:
- Local tissue (where the needle is placed)
- Segmental effects (nerve response from the needle to the spine)
- Central Nervous System (stimulating responses in the brain)
For additional detail see the Acupuncture page HERE
A full course of treatment will depend on the patient and the nature of their condition. For acute or minor conditions approximately 6-12 visits are normal. For serious or chronic conditions, 12 or more visits may be needed.
After the initial course of treatment is completed it is common for patients to continue regularly/semi-regularly for maintenance or wellness visits.
Currently, we are not working with insurance companies.
Joshua has a wealth of training, experience, and passion in applying ancient traditional and western medical practices to get results. He listens carefully when assessing my needs, explains each procedure, and answers all my questions. He also cares to provide ideas for me to implement at home to maintain progress with my health. I’ve tried acupuncture in the past with different practitioners. Joshua, however, is the only one who’s delivered the healing I needed. -Jan
